Address: 700 8th Avenue South, 5th Floor
Contact: (615) 810-8200
Hours: Wednesday to Saturday 5:00PM-9:00PM

Stepping into the expanded space of The Catbird Seat feels like entering a secretive, flavor-obsessed theater.

At this renowned culinary incubator, diners sit directly at a bar-height counter, granting an intimate, face-to-face perspective of the chefs meticulously assembling each boundary-pushing dish.

The current chef-led vision guarantees a dynamic sequence of bites that constantly challenges traditional dining expectations.

During my recent visit, the sheer creativity radiating from the open kitchen left my taste buds completely electrified.

The notoriously low seating capacity makes snagging that reservation fiercely competitive, and arriving can be confusing since the entryway is tucked away on a secondary street.

However, the astonishing attention to detail makes the initial scavenger hunt entirely worthwhile.

Pros

  • Continuously evolving culinary concepts
  • Immersive chef-facing counter seating
  • Private event hosting capabilities
  • Dedicated pre-dinner lounge spaces

Cons

  • Extremely low dining capacity
  • Confusing secondary street entryway

Customer Reviews

Not enough stars, the chefs are artists with food. It’s a work of art, don’t want to eat it. Farm to table, with the freshest ingredients. I recommend this place and make reservations. Also pair it with the wine menu or not they have cocktails. The wine steward was so sweet, showed each bottle and region it is from. Each dish is explained by the chef. This is the top three of my tasting menu experiences. I can’t say enough about the people or the experience you just have to take my word.

Enjoyed the early 15 course tasting seating paired with wine. The staff could not have been more friendly and knowledgeable. We had the winter menu which included a lot of seafood dishes. The wine selections were terrific.

2. Bastion

bastion

Website: bastionnashville.com
Address: 434 Houston St
Contact: (615) 490-8434 | [email protected]
Hours: Big Bar: Sunday to Thursday 5:00PM-12:00AM | Friday to Saturday 5:00PM-1:00AM | Restaurant: Wednesday to Saturday 5:30PM-9:00PM

Tucked away behind an accessible cocktail lounge, a remarkably intimate dining room awaits those lucky enough to secure an advance booking.

Bastion balances two distinct atmospheres, offering a brilliant contrast between a casual hangout and a sophisticated culinary revelation. While the adjacent bar is fantastic for a relaxed drink, you can’t order the intricate tasting dishes while seated there.

The kitchen leans heavily into constant reinvention, utilizing the freshest weekly produce to craft an ever-evolving sequence of vibrant plates.

To guarantee your spot, though, you’ll have to navigate their structured online system and pre-pay during specific monthly release windows. They also have a strict no-pet policy might disappoint some travelers.

Despite these minor logistical hurdles, the sheer ingenuity of the rotating menu ensures a thrilling night out.

Pros

  • Thoughtfully curated beverage pairings
  • Validated parking in nearby lot
  • Corkage option for personal wines
  • Relaxed adjacent bar for late-night bites

Cons

  • Strict separation of bar and dining menus
  • No pets allowed inside the venue

Customer Reviews

The tasting menu was excellent! My wife and I went to celebrate her birthday. She had a lovely time. We enjoyed trying foods that we don’t normally eat prepared in ways we don’t normally prepare them. I would’ve liked to have stopped at the little bar on our way out to try to some fine spirits, but another party occupied it the whole thing right before we finished our meal which was a let down. My wife’s wine was delicious, while the one I ordered was a letdown. So, if you don’t do the wine pairing, be selective.

Bastion is a very unique spot! The menu is always changing, so it’s a flavor adventure every time. If you’re a picky eater, this place will not be for you as it is a tasting menu and the portions are small. This spot is mean’t for the foodies who enjoy fine dining atmospheres and are willing to try new food methods and flavors. The small intimate vibe adds to the cozy charm. If you’re looking for a food experience with small portions, big flavors, and that goes beyond the usual – then add this place to your list!

3. Tailor Nashville

Website: tailornashville.com
Address: 620 Taylor Street
Contact: [email protected]
Hours: Thursday to Sunday 5:00PM-10:00PM

Gathering around the table Tailor Nashville feels remarkably like attending a highly orchestrated, incredibly warm dinner party.

Chef Vivek Surti, the visionary behind the concept, channels his South Asian American heritage into a synchronized progression of deeply personal dishes.

Expect high-touch storytelling here; staff members frequently stop by to share the rich anecdotes behind every vibrant bite.

When I dined here to celebrate a recent milestone, the aromatic spices and familial warmth radiating from the kitchen were genuinely captivating.

You do need to plan carefully, as the kitchen enforces a strict midday cutoff for same-day bookings and cannot accommodate allium or nightshade allergies.

Fortunately, the decision-free beverage pairings gracefully complemented the bold flavors, letting me completely surrender to the evening.

Pros

  • Synchronized dinner party atmosphere
  • Immersive table-side storytelling
  • Fully curated beverage and zero-proof pairings
  • Adaptable to many dietary restrictions

Cons

  • Rigid midday cutoff for same-day bookings
  • Cannot accommodate allium or nightshade allergies

Customer Reviews

Absolutely incredible fall menu. I’ve never felt more at home when doing a tasting menu. Wine list is fun and not your ordinary selection. The meal was layered with flavor in the perfect way. Don’t skip the caviar extra it’s so worth it. The service was flawless and it was wonderful to meet the chef and owner who came over to chat. 10/10

It is an experience you will remember. The menu is a tasting menu style, they refer to it as dinner. The quality and flavors are very good and unique. The Chef tells a story with each of the 5 courses. You should definitely get alcohol pairings with your meal, they are well thought out and generous. This was our first but it won’t be our last visit.

4. Yolan

yolan

Website: yolannashville.com
Address: 403 4th Avenue South
Contact: (615) 231-0405 | [email protected]
Hours: Breakfast & Brunch: Mon-Thu 7:00AM-11:00AM, Fri-Sun 7:00AM-3:00PM | Weekday Lunch: Mon-Thu 11:00AM-3:00PM | Afternoon Aperitivo: Daily 3:00PM-5:00PM | Dinner: Daily 5:00PM-10:00PM

A refined culinary love letter to Italy sits right in the city center, paying a deeply flavorful homage to the founding family’s matriarch.

Yolan is a striking Italian restaurant that masterfully guides guests through a highly structured prix fixe journey, showcasing seasonal expressions and elegant regional techniques.

Their afternoon aperitivo beautifully sets the mood for the luxurious courses that follow. Every bite bursts with authentic, sun-drenched flavors that transport your palate straight to the Mediterranean coast.

However, the kitchen mandates that every single person at your table must participate in the tasting, which can be frustrating if someone prefers a lighter meal.

Also, their focus on rare ingredients also carry steep price tags. Noenethelss, the impeccable daily dinner service offers an enchanting escape.

Pros

  • Open for dinner service every night
  • Morning access to fresh pastries and espresso
  • Accommodates specific food allergies
  • Private spaces for large gatherings

Cons

  • Mandatory table-wide tasting menu participation
  • Extremely steep pricing for special culinary events

Customer Reviews

This is our 3rd time back to Yolan. I cannot express enough how amazing the experience is here. The food is the best in Nashville, the service is 10/10, the drinks are amazing and they also have a sommelier to customize your wine pairings with your meal. Thomas is the best! We have dined ordering from the main menu and have also done the tasting menus. Both are extraordinary. You will NOT be disappointed.

We’ve eaten at so many high caliber fine dining restaurants that this felt a little like a miss. The burrata was amazing. The cacio e Pepe was bland. The whipped potatoes on the skirt steak needed a little something, something. We definitely enjoyed Four Walls. We had great service. We loved the atmosphere. We just weren’t impressed with what we chose for dinner. Definitely want to come back and experience the tasting menu instead of ala carte. Hopefully that will prove to be a better food experience.

5. Moto

moto

Website: motonashville.com
Address: 1120 McGavock St
Contact: (615) 736-5305
Hours: Monday to Thursday & Sunday 5:00PM-10:00PM | Friday to Saturday 5:00PM-11:00PM

Operating with a philosophy of constant, mouth-watering evolution, Moto is a vibrant spot that strips down its larger offerings to present a highly focused five-course showcase.

Among the many upscale restaurants in the area, this venue stands out by leaning heavily into a critically acclaimed wine program to complement their seasonal ingredients.

The kitchen even provides luxurious add-ons, like shaved truffles, allowing you to thoroughly customize your elegant plates.

The sensual atmosphere effortlessly accommodates an intimate, romantic evening over meticulously crafted bites.

Unfortunately, the primary tasting experience is strictly formatted for pairs, making it quite difficult for solo diners or odd-numbered groups to partake.

Larger parties will also notice an automatic gratuity immediately applied to the final bill, though the generous happy hour pricing still makes it a truly decadent destination.

Pros

  • Critically acclaimed wine program
  • Luxurious menu add-ons like shaved truffles
  • Aggressive early evening drink discounts
  • Convenient online digital storefront

Cons

  • Tasting menu strictly formatted for pairs
  • Automatic gratuity applied to larger parties

Customer Reviews

Our first visit to Moto and absolutely wonderful! So glad we chose the chef’s tasting menu and wine pairing! Our server Kyler (?) was awesome…professional, knowledgeable and had perfect timing throughout the evening. Ca’t wait to be back and experience the newest Executive Chef’s creations.

This was truly a special visit to Moto! We started with the olive oil flight out of curiosity and our server, Mandy, gave us very insightful descriptions and tasting guidance to maximize our experience. We were also lucky enough to talk to the bartender Amanda who had a lot of suggestions for drinks and even let us sample new cocktails she was testing for the menu. Through and through this was a wonderful experience and we will be back!!!
