Go From Blueprints to Luxury Estates with the 5 Best Home Builders in Nashville

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Service Integration: We looked for builders offering cohesive start-to-finish operations under one roof. Managing architecture and construction simultaneously reduces costly delays for buyers.

Local Market Expertise: Getting a grip on Middle Tennessee building codes is a big deal if you want your project to go smoothly. We focused on companies that’ve been around the block a few times and have a solid track record right here in our community.

Design Flexibility: A solid contractor needs to roll with your changing ideas rather than boxing you into a set floor plan. We picked teams that actually sit down and work with you while you’re drawing up the plans and putting up the walls.

Post-Construction Support: Getting the keys to your new place should mean you can finally relax. We made sure to pick builders who back up their work with solid structural warranties and stick around to help out even after you move your furniture in.

Let’s talk about building your dream house. Staring at an empty lot usually brings up a mix of excitement and straight-up stress, mostly because picking the right team to actually build the thing feels like a huge guessing game.

You really need professionals who get what you want and know how to put it together without a hitch. Hiring the top home builders in Nashville means your hard-earned money stays in the hands of locals who know the area inside and out.

To save you some serious headaches, we took a close look at the local contractors who actually deliver on their promises.

This guide highlights trusted companies that walk you right through the whole process, turning those basic blueprints into a custom estate you’ll love living in.

How much does custom home building cost in Nashville?

Building a custom home in Nashville typically costs between $130 and $450 (sometimes even higher) per square foot, largely depending on the level of luxury and site preparation required.

Tackling a big home build feels a lot less stressful when the architects and interior designers actually work in the same office. With Build Nashville handling the whole process, you’re saved from playing middleman between different contractors.

Their team really likes to push the envelope on design. You can expect them to craft highly specific details, like custom millwork or a statement wall that perfectly matches how you want to live.

A friend of mine chatted with them recently, and she was so relieved when they helped her spot a great lot in an up-and-coming neighborhood. They kept throwing out fresh ideas for the floor plans even after the digging started.

Just keep in mind that they stick to high-demand spots like Sylvan Park and Williamson County. Since they strictly build high-end custom homes, they won’t be the right fit if you’re working with a starter budget.

Pros

  • Flexible and iterative drawing process
  • Active land acquisition assistance
  • Highly collaborative team approach
  • In-house builder warranty program

Cons

  • Geographically restricted service area
  • Exclusively focused on high-end luxury
  • Not suitable for entry-level budgets

Build Nashville is top of the game!

The process has not only been stress free but a total blast working with everyone on their team! My husband and I were in the trades for over 10 years and worked with many contractors and builders. They are a well oiled machine. If you plan on custom building look no further. Build Nashville is top of the game!

100% recommend

I have had the pleasure of working directly with the group of people at Build Nashville for the last 5+ years. They are all absolutely wonderful people who care about the product they put out to their customers. I have seen them go above and beyond on projects to make it exactly as requested. If you are looking to build a custom home in the Nashville or surrounding areas I would 100% recommend reaching out to the Awesome crew at Build Nashville.

Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Legacy South manages every single step of the building process. They manage the initial land purchase, oversee construction, and finally hand over your new keys.

This setup makes things way easier on you since you only have to deal with one main point of contact.

They’re also a homegrown Middle Tennessee company, so they know exactly what the local community needs and how to build a rock-solid house.

They focus heavily on designing spaces that actually make your everyday life easier and more comfortable. You get to sit down for a dedicated planning phase to make sure the layout and interior finishes match your exact style.

One thing to note, though, is that they mainly stick to the immediate Nashville area. So, if you want to build further out, you’ll definitely need to hire other general contractors for the job.

Pros

  • Comprehensive project management
  • Dedicated design collaboration phase
  • Formal pre-move-in walkthroughs
  • Focus on community-oriented development

Cons

  • Service restricted to Middle Tennessee
  • No out-of-state build options

Thank you Legacy South!

The Legacy South team has been very professional and flexible with me and my buyer. My buyer had a contingency to sell her house to purchase this new build, The Bryce. Laura, Donna and the project managers were very flexible and professional. We closed on time and my client was given high quality support with all questions asked. Thank you Legacy South!

Highly recommend Legacy South to anyone

I’ve had a very pleasant experience with Legacy South and am truly impressed with the quality of my home and the finishes throughout. It’s clear they take pride in their work. I did have a small issue after moving in, and Ed was quick to respond and incredibly helpful in resolving it. That level of service really stood out. I absolutely love my new home and would highly recommend Legacy South to anyone looking for a quality builder.

Using eco-friendly materials is a smart move if you want a house that lasts. Castle Homes focuses heavily on building sustainable luxury residences around here.

They build strictly to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and National Green Building Standards. This means their houses tend to be energy-efficient and produce less waste.

It’s very convenient that they have an in-house team of designers and project managers who work together from day one to keep everything on track.

Homeowners also get a super detailed budget breakdown before anyone even touches a shovel. Knowing exactly what the build costs up front gives you breathing room to hire painting contractors or splurge on custom interior decor later.

But keep in mind that their work is definitely geared toward the high-end custom market. If you’re keeping a tight watch on your wallet, this won’t be the team for you.

Pros

  • Health-conscious green building practices
  • Detailed pre-construction cost analysis
  • Professional interior design support
  • Capable of complex architectural details

Cons

  • Exclusively focused on luxury markets
  • Unsuited for mid-range budgets

Highly recommend Castle Homes!

We have been in our Castle Home for 2.5 years now, and could not be more pleased. The quality of construction is excellent, the staff have been responsive to all of our questions, and the few inevitable issues have all been resolved quickly. We highly recommend Castle Homes!

We are in love with our home thanks to Castle!

Five stars experience with Castle Homes! Brett, Lexi, and Seth went above and beyond for our project in West Nashville. We couldn’t be happier with the attention to detail they offered and insight on items that we hadn’t even considered. We are in love with our home thanks to Castle!

Hiring a builder like Frank Batson Homes with decades of experience gives you some serious peace of mind when you are spending this kind of money.

Having worked around Middle Tennessee since 1975, they know the local building codes and community guidelines inside and out. Their builds come with a ten-year structural warranty, which is a nice safety net.

Plus, they don’t restrict you to building a house exclusively inside their pre-planned neighborhood developments. If you already own a piece of land, they will gladly build a custom design right on your site.

One of our researchers recently used their centralized design studio, and he loved picking out all his exterior finishes in one organized spot without driving all over town.

The only catch is that Frank Batson Homes only works in a few specific areas, like Wilson and Davidson counties. If you want to build further out in Tennessee, you’ll have to look elsewhere.

Pros

  • Robust 10-year structural warranty
  • Deep knowledge of local building codes
  • Flexible build-on-your-lot options
  • Centralized exterior design studio

Cons

  • Operations limited to specific counties
  • Not available for wider Tennessee builds

Check off all the boxes for me

Professional and friendly people and the homes check off all the boxes for me. It has a Covered back porch, lots of hard flooring, downstairs laundry, and master baths have closed in toilet area. And sensible dining areas as well.

The best builders in middle Tennessee

Hands down best builders we have ever worked with. This is our 3rd home and we are very happy to call our Frank Batson home our forever home! The quality in craftsmanship is top notch and it was such a blast to design. There is no wonder why they are the best builders in middle Tennessee.

  • Mon-Fri 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Sat 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Skipping the cost of an independent architect is a huge perk if you already have a plot of land. America’s Home Place in Nashville gives you free access to over sixty floor plans that you can tweak to fit your needs.

Focusing entirely on building right on your property means you get a customized house without feeling boxed into a cookie-cutter neighborhood.

They also use a fixed-price contract, which is a big relief. Once you sign, your price is locked in, so you don’t have to stress about the cost of lumber or materials randomly spiking during construction.

A local superintendent watches over every project to ensure everything is built with solid, name-brand materials.

Just remember that they stick strictly to the construction side of things. That means you cannot rely on them for heavy site-prep or major land clearing before the foundation work actually begins.

Pros

  • Decades of industry stability
  • Comprehensive 10-year structural warranty
  • Dedicated local building superintendent
  • Uses trusted name-brand materials

Cons

  • Does not include heavy site-prep or land clearing
  • Requires client to own a buildable lot first

The craftsmanship is excellent

We love our new home. A special thank you to Becca who helped us start our journey and also Art our project manager. Without these two, their expertise and hard work we would not have our dream home. Becca and Art thank you so much for making this work. America’s home place is great…

The craftsmanship is excellent and was above our expectations..
