Life truly has its ups and downs. From the birth of a child, graduations, weddings, and everything in between, there are lots of pleasant surprises and miseries in store.
I remember when we had to lay our mom to rest. She was the first death in our family, and we were at a loss on what to do until a friend of mine referred us to their family’s trusted funeral home, just around Nashville.
If you’ve ever lost a loved one, know that their memory will carry on through our words and actions, like setting up their memorial. May this list help you in perhaps the most trying time of life, one entry at a time.
How expensive is a funeral service in Nashville?
A funeral service in Nashville can cost north of $7,000 for a casket burial process and between $1,500 and $7,000 for cremation. The fee typically already includes the funeral home and memorial service, but can still go higher depending on the cemetery costs.
1. Spring Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery

Location: 5110 Gallatin Pike S
Contact: (615) 866-1419
Business hours: 24/7 (Office: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM)
Many consider Spring Hill a Nashville landmark, which can feel unusual for a place for the dead. But with a history reaching back as far as the 1780s, it’s easy to see why it holds a place in the city’s books.
It began as a cemetery and later added a funeral home, serving families from all backgrounds. Its goal is simple: offer support, comfort, and clear guidance in an overwhelming situation.
Planning a funeral here is straightforward, like planning to move house. You’ll be paired with an advisor who will help you decide on the service you want and the ultimate resting place that feels right.
We’re also glad that Spring Hill can accommodate either burial or cremation. This helps both those with the budget and those with less to still give their loved ones a dignified goodbye.
Do note that as of 2025, it’s under new management. The shift surely shows as mixed reviews, but we don’t think these define the place.
Handled everything with empathy and professionalism
“I can’t say enough about Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery. We just moved to this beautiful state when my husband, Jeff passed. Feeling very alone and filled with grief we found Spring Hill Funeral Home. From the moment we walked in, we could feel the support.
We worked with Keri. She really has an inner intuition how to guide people and the pace. Our funeral was private and small. However, she made us feel at peace. She handled EVERYTHING with empathy and professionalism. She was on it every step of way. Even with a minor mishap, she made lovely.
I’m sorry to only be giving 5 stars when Keri and Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery really deserve 10 stars. Thank you for making us feel good about all our decisions and finding peace in our new home state of Tennessee.”

Professional and compassionate service; just double-check location
“Scott & Qiana were courteous an efficient in building client rapport on the Spring Hill Cemetery side of the business. The mortuary is beautiful. A little disappointing that the picture of water on the landing page of their website that states “Where Nashville comes to remember” is not actually on the property. Highly Recommend Conformation of your selected location by Viewing the EXACT resting place SITE Prior to its Final Purchase!
The Home Office staff were both Professional & Compassionate in problem solving… One of the stars given is all them, Thank You ever So Kindly Yvonne, Tanisha & Dementra!!”

2. Phillips-Robinson Funeral Home

Location: 2707 Gallatin Pike
Contact: (615) 262-3312, [email protected]
Business hours: 24/7
Phillips-Robinson has been serving Nashville since 1929, and in a time when most funeral homes are owned by big chains (remember the Fisher family’s dilemma in Six Feet Under?), it’s impressive that the same family who built it is still in charge.
Creating personal and meaningful funerals is its goal. Based on what we’ve seen, Phillips-Robinson is doing well on that.
Many clients praise its smooth planning process. Perhaps a lot comes down to the staff, who are consistently described as warm, patient, and genuinely supportive to clients.
The Phillips-Robinson building also stands out with its all-white exterior and clean, well-kept interiors. Just looking at it makes us feel calm already.
What impressed us most, though, is the option for a “natural green” burial. Families can choose to bury their loved ones in a biodegradable coffin at the Larkspur Conservation.
Now, if that way of going back to nature after death isn’t poetic enough, we don’t really know what else is.
Made a part of a hard experience easy
“While the nature of the experience of course is not positive, Phillips Robinson made it as positive as it possibly could be. From the first call they were helpful, informative professional, and kept us informed every step of the way. Thanks for making this part of it easy.”

So helpful and caring in the whole process
“The entire Phillips Robinson team was so helpful and caring during the whole process. Due to some family scheduling conflicts the were very accommodating to our schedule and we had a service at P&R and one at my church. They handled everything very professional. I recommend Phillips & Robinson for you funeral arrangements.”

3. Nashville Funeral & Cremation

Location: 210 McMillin Street
Contact: (615) 256-1605, [email protected]
Business hours: 24/7
We’ll say it right away: Nashville Funeral & Cremation’s a solid option for families watching their budget yet still wanting to give a proper goodbye. With some of the lowest rates in the city for both burials and cremations, it’s surely not a gimmick.
Even after being acquired by a larger corporation, the no-frills approach of this funeral home still stuck. Everything about the place reflects a simple personality, from the forte on immediate burials and direct cremations, right down to the plain building itself.
However, what stood out the most was the transparency. Families can check Nashville Funeral’s website and see clear ballpark figures before even making a call—stress and guesswork out of the way.
Finally, the staff also earns consistent praise for being compassionate, which makes them extra reliable when families need all hands on deck.
Eased my worry on whether they actually had them and not someone else
“They were extremely helpful. They went above and beyond to make me comfortable. They even verified my husband’s tattoos to ease my worry about whether they actually had him and not someone else. The process was explained to me about how they ensure the family gets the right ashes(a worry of mine). I do recommend having your loved ones taken care of by them. Scott was the best and Randi is super sweet. They made this tough time easier.”

Glad a friend recommended this place
“Scott was so kind and compassionate, he helped me figure out what to do when my dad died. This was the first time for me and I’m so glad a friend recommended that I call them. The price was a lot lower than I expected, and lower than any other place around and I am so thankful for that. The office was clean and everyone there was professional. They offered us water and coffee. Scott was very comforting throughout the whole process, thank you Scott for being so kind and thoughtful.”

4. Compassion Funeral & Cremation Services

Location: 6949 Charlotte Pike, Suite 104
Contact: Tel: (615) 857-9955, Fax: (615) 760-5261
Business hours: 24/7
Compassion may be the youngest funeral home on this list so far, but it has held its own surprisingly well since its inception in 2021. When we dug further, we found it to be quite an impressive locally owned and operated funeral home.
For instance, Compassion can handle every aspect of creating solemn and memorable funerals, even though it doesn’t have its own chapel, cemetery, or crematorium. That’s not Compassion’s edge, though.
Some families risk getting hit with extra fees when the time comes to use pre-existing funeral plans from other companies.
However, that risk can be minimized if they choose to transfer to Compassion instead because this company can honor burial or cremation plans from other providers.
This is a huge plus in our books because it can mean getting real savings or at least getting the full value of what you’ve already paid for.
Finally, we appreciate that Compassion posts the price of its services online. We’d just prefer the figures to be updated more frequently (currently posted figures date from two years ago).
Made sure things are perfect and financially manageable
“I am so thankful Billy and Michael took the leap and opened this business for Nashville and surrounding communities. When my uncle unexpectedly passed away, our family was at a loss on where and how we could give him a proper service. There was no pre-planned funeral or personal assets to fully support the financial side and funerals can be extremely costly. During a very difficult time for my mom, aunt and all our family, I found Compassion. Most funeral homes are now owned and ran by corporations and unfortunately, have high price tags. Billy and Michael jumped right in to help us and made sure everything was perfect and financially manageable for our family. Because of them, we were able to give a beautiful service that honored my uncle David & his military involvement. No matter the time of day, they were there for us to answer questions, make adjustments as our plans had to change and offer comfort to his sisters and all his family. My uncle was cared for and honored by Billy & Michael from the moment I called them. I am so grateful and highly recommend Compassion Funeral & Cremation Services.”

Transparent throughout the entire process
“Compassion Funeral Services recently conducted the funeral for my dad. They did an excellent job of handling all the details, both big and small. Michael was very professional and guided us thru the entire process and was very transparent during the entire process. He and the staff handled each detail with grace and professionalism . I would highly recommend their services and expertise.”

5. Highland Hills Funeral Home & Crematory

Location: 2422 Brick Church Pike
Contact: (615) 650-5555, [email protected]
Business hours: 24/7 (Office: Monday to Friday – 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Saturday and Sunday by appointment)
Highland Hills has been doing funerals for more than a decade, and they’ve built their reputation with dignified service, fair pricing, and keen attention to detail.
Its facilities aren’t that flashy, save for the imposing brick facade of its boxy building, but definitely well-kept. The chapel and adjoining rooms are comfy and classy enough to host memorials, and cremations can be done at the in-house crematorium.
Given all this, the pricing they have is standard and reasonable enough. Although we would’ve liked a more transparent approach (it’s not like a storage facility anyway), we kinda understand why Highland Hills doesn’t make a pricing list publicly available.
The staff here also earns a lot of praise for their warmth and compassion for clients. That said, a few clients have mentioned inconsistencies in communication and tone, particularly when dealing with upper management; thus, your mileage may vary.
Even so, we still see Highland Hills and its quality of service in a positive light.
Meets your needs on the business side
“Great service, friendly staff & every need was met in the loss of our loved one. In times like this you definitely need the support & love of the ones that will meet your needs on the business side.”
– Nona Ensley, Google Review
Care even after office hours is appreciated
“George was amazing to deal with as we are in Michigan and our loved one passed away in Nashville. The communication and care even after business hours was so appreciated during this hard time. This funeral home made a difficult time so much easier. Would highly recommend them! Thank you so much again.”
