1. The Station Inn

Website: https://www.stationinn.com/
Address: 402 12th Avenue South
Contact: (615) 255-3307
Schedule: Daily 7:00 PM – 12:00 AM
Stepping into this legendary room drops you right into the heart of bluegrass and roots music. You can grab a slice of pizza, pull up a chair, and sit just feet away from Grammy-winning artists.
Their stripped-down setup means you really feel the music, and the acoustic performances draw serious fans from all over the globe.
Professional touring musicians casually sit in with local talent during the Sunday night jam, creating a vibe where everyone feels like part of the neighborhood.
While you don’t have to deal with insane ticket prices to see a great show, you should definitely plan ahead.
Their strict first-come, first-served seating policy means you risk standing all night or not getting in at all for the really high-demand shows. The cheap cover charge and central spot in The Gulch make it totally worth the risk, though.

Puts you at the foot of the stage
It’s how music should be heard. Small intimate location, that puts you at the foot of the stage. Third trip there and can’t wait for the next visit. Have seen Shawn Camp, Junior Brown and the All-Star jam last night. Last night’s treat, for me, was getting to see Michael Cleveland for the first time. What an incredible talent he is.

Great historic venue that features great music
A great historic venue that features great music. We got there early so no wait to get in but the place really filled up closer to show time. A decent beer selection but didn’t notice any mixed drinks or cocktails. I didn’t try the pizza but everyone raves about it. They have some merch for sale and a very friendly staff.

2. EXIT/IN

Website: https://exitin.com/
Address: 2208 Elliston Place
Contact: (615) 274-9372
Schedule: Mon-Sat 8:00 PM – 3:00 AM
This historic club serves as a true rite of passage for serious touring acts. EXIT/IN has a massive multi-genre legacy, having hosted heavy hitters ranging from Johnny Cash to the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Since they helped found the National Independent Venue Association, the owners fiercely protect that authentic, gritty live entertainment experience you just can’t get at corporate arenas.
You get massive, full-production sound in a 500-capacity room that still feels surprisingly personal.
During a recent visit to catch an up-and-coming indie rock band, I even noticed a few scouts from local PR agencies hovering near the back bar. They must be looking for the next big thing.
But keep in mind that many of their most popular shows enforce a strict 18+ or 21+ age limit. So, that definitely shuts out younger fans wanting to join the fun, but it makes for a great night out with your older crew.

3. The Bluebird Cafe

Website: https://www.bluebirdcafe.com/
Address: 4104 Hillsboro Pike
Contact: (615) 383-1461
Schedule: Daily (Shows typically at 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM
Catching a show at The Bluebird Cafe means experiencing their signature “in the round” format. Here, four songwriters sit right in the center of the room, swapping songs and sharing the stories behind their tracks.
This famous listening room strictly enforces a quiet policy, so the audience focuses entirely on the lyrics and emotional delivery.
After weeks of refreshing their website, I finally managed to grab a reservation. I ended up sitting inches away from creators who clearly never needed singing lessons in their lives.
It’s also known as a songwriting discovery hub, where artists like Taylor Swift were discovered early in their careers.
Because of that monumental fame and a tiny 90-seat capacity, securing a ticket gets fiercely competitive. And if I’m being honest, it can get a bit frustrating at times.
But once you’re sitting in the dark, nursing a drink, and hearing a hit song stripped down to just an acoustic guitar, the hassle completely melts away.

Highly recommend it!
This was a fabulous experience from beginning to end. It is difficult to get reservations because it is such a small venue. The artists were amazing. The food was very good. The service was outstanding. I can’t say enough good things about it. We would absolutely come back anytime, we are in the area! A great experience. I highly recommend it!

You won’t experience anything like this on Broadway
Getting tickets to this is nearly impossible. I tried right when they went on sale and they were already sold out. I kept refreshing and luckily I was able to get some. The show was great! All the artist played beautiful songs. You won’t experience anything like this on Broadway. The show is so intimate. We sat right next to the artist. My only complaint was the seats could use some cushions 😁

4. Ryman Auditorium

Website: https://www.ryman.com/
Address: 116 Rep. John Lewis Way North
Contact: (800) 733-6779
Schedule: Daily 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Sitting in the original 19th-century oak pews of this former Grand Ole Opry home instantly connects you to its profound Mother Church heritage.
Folks call it that because the building literally started as a revival tabernacle back in the 1890s before transforming into a music mecca.
Their auditorium delivers exceptional natural acoustics, drawing top-tier vocalists who crave that pristine, unamplified sound. The sheer magnitude of history echoing through the hall makes every chord strike harder and deeper.
An ongoing partnership with Hatch Show Print also lets fans take home custom letterpress posters right from the merch booth.
While the historic charm hits you the second you walk in, you should definitely prepare yourself for the seating situation. Those vintage wooden pews completely lack individual armrests, so things get pretty tight.
They can really become quite uncomfortable during a lengthy multi-act concert. Still, seeing a show in this legendary space is an absolute must-do.

Can’t wait to come back
The show was amazing. We saw Shane Smith and the saints. The openers were both great and put on a wonderful show. All the staff we encountered were polite and helpful. We added on the Fords Lounge and now this will always be a must. The bartender in the lounge is top notch and made you feel so comfortable. We can’t wait to come back.

So glad that the artist(s) chose this venue! ❤️
I was here recently for the Mitski and Sunny War concert! The security was friendly and helpful getting us in as efficiently as possible. The staff inside were also really friendly and helped us catch an elevator ride up to the second floor. One of the staff members led us to find our seats and being in Section3 RowC it was such a great view! The closest I’ve ever been to any performance and it was absolutely stellar. I really hope to come to the Ryman for another performance, I’m so glad that the artist(s) chose this venue! ❤️

5. Ascend Federal Credit Union Amphitheater

Website: https://www.ascendamphitheater.com/
Address: 310 1st Avenue South
Contact: (615) 258-5944
Schedule: Varies By Event
Watching a concert while the glittering city skyline serves as your stage backdrop creates a uniquely urban open-air vibe.
Set right inside Metro Riverfront Park, the expansive Ascend Federal Credit Union Amphitheater pairs the relaxed feel of a sprawling lawn festival with the sharp audio quality of a professional amphitheater.
They operate as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold-certified facility. You see this green standard in action through their massive composting bins and recycling stations scattered everywhere.
The sound carries beautifully right over the grass, making it a stellar spot to catch massive national tours under the stars. Since the space operates strictly on a rain-or-shine policy, you’re entirely exposed to the elements.
So, if a sudden summer thunderstorm rolls in, you’re definitely going to get wet. Packing a poncho is always a smart move when grabbing lawn tickets here, but the twilight views easily make up for the weather risks.

Lawn seats were the best place for geriatric dancing 🤣
Great location. It was very beautiful to be surrounded by the Nashville scenery. Space and sound was spot on. Was lucky enough to see Teddy Swims there for the first visit. What an incredible experience! Lawn seats were the best place for geriatric dancing 🤣 Exactly where I was… living my best life… swimming in losing control with TS

Perfect place to enjoy live music
I had the best time at Ascend Amphitheater with my teenage daughter seeing Teddy Swims! The sunset views over the river and city skyline were gorgeous, and the whole night just felt special. The sound was excellent, and even though we were in the grass seats, we didn’t feel like we were missing out on anything. It’s such a great venue—laid back, beautiful, and the perfect place to enjoy live music.
