We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.
  • Print and Archival Quality: We evaluated the types of inks, chemistry, and paper stocks each lab utilizes to ensure long-lasting results. Priority was given to studios offering museum-grade materials and professional color calibration.
  •
  • Turnaround Times and Convenience: We examined how quickly each business processes orders and whether they offer rush services for tight deadlines. Facilities with flexible drop-off hours and straightforward mail-in options received higher consideration.
  •
  • Specialized Services: We looked at the unique offerings of each lab, such as large-format printing, vintage film processing, or high-end scanning. Businesses that cater to niche creative needs stood out from standard commercial printers.
  •
  • Expertise and Customer Support: We assessed the level of professional guidance available to clients during the printing process. Shops that provide one-on-one consultations or frame-by-frame color corrections ranked higher for their dedication to the final product.

Whether it’s marketing materials for a business or a family memory you want to preserve, finding a reliable print lab makes all the difference.

They’re my go to film processor
Can’t say enough about how awesome Safelight is! They’re my go to film processor, but they’re also great for prints whether you shoot film or not. Forget whatever mega online discount printer, save the shipping, support a local business and go to Safelight! Photos are film processed (and 2 of 3 scanned) at Safelight.

The film is always handled professionally
Meredith has always been incredibly helpful in everything she’s worked on and she is incredibly fast! The film is always handled professionally and developed and scanned well. The prints are never just tossed in and out of the machine—everything is always a thoughtful decision, and I greatly appreciate her work.

Customer Reviews

The printed pieces are BEAUTIFUL
I brought in 6 original watercolors that I wanted scanned as well as printed. The printed pieces are BEAUTIFUL. The color stayed true and they cleaned up the edges for me too. And I also received digital files of my work that I can use for them to print more, or take with me to any other place. Plus the customer service was great. They understood what I was wanting and pointed me in the right direction

Chromatics is an amazing asset
I have been in this business as long as Chromatics has been around, and cannot imagine a more customer-satisfaction driven team of people. I was stunned at the negative review. Over my 25+ year history with them, I have found them to be experts in every fashion of their offerings, patient, kind and always put the customer and quality first. Chromatics is an amazing asset to the photographic community period.

Boutique Film Lab stands out because they allow photographers to choose between Noritsu and Frontier scanners. This choice drastically changes the aesthetic of your final prints.

Customer Reviews

Awesome staff
Awesome staff. They helped develop some film I used in a new (old) camera. Since the light sensor was out, I really wanted to see how everything worked with the camera and make sure everything was in order before I left the country. Thanks for the help.

The staff are excellent
They develop and scan Super 8 film here. That’s worth 5 stars on its own. Just a heads up that the scan resolution is only 720p.

The staff are excellent, professional, and kind.  I’ve been very satisfied with my experience here. I’m delighted to be a repeat customer.
