We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Instructor Industry Experience: We prioritized programs led by professionals with active credits in film or theater. This ensures you receive practical guidance rooted in current industry standards.

Curriculum Focus: Our assessment looked at whether the classes emphasize on-camera techniques or the business aspects of acting. A specialized curriculum helps actors target the exact skills they need for their desired career path.

Class Size and Participation: Programs that guarantee active performance time rather than passive observation scored higher on our list. Small class sizes allow for individualized feedback and a more focused learning environment.

Accessibility and Flexibility: We evaluated the commitment levels required, including audition prerequisites and available financial aid. Flexible structures make it easier for working professionals to maintain their training consistently.

Breaking into the entertainment industry requires solid training, and finding the right environment to hone your craft is a crucial first step. Aspiring actors and creative professionals all need a reliable space to sharpen their skills.

Tracking down the best acting school in Nashville means looking closely at the curriculum and instructor experience. You might be looking for on-camera techniques or specialized workshops to elevate your performance.

Hours: By Appointment only

Gaining access to Hollywood-level coaching without leaving Tennessee is a massive advantage for any aspiring professional.

At The 4th Wall Acting Studio, head coach William Scott Arnold focuses on timeless principles to build self-sufficient artists. Impressively, he’s one of only three coaches worldwide authorized to teach the prestigious Carter Thor Studio method.

During a session I observed, I was struck by how effectively the instructors tailored their detailed script analysis specifically for the camera. Though supportive, they constantly push students to meet professional set standards.

Another great thing here is that students get to learn from a highly skilled dual-leadership team, including an award-winning choreographer who has worked with giants like Universal Studios and DreamWorks!

It’s also great that the schedules are flexible month-to-month.

Overall, this school ensures actors deeply understand the psychological nuances required on professional sets.

The main drawback is their limited stage performance focus, which may frustrate performers looking for musical training.

Pros

  • Elite Los Angeles coaching pedigree
  • Highly targeted film and television focus
  • Flexible month-to-month commitment
  • Strong professional networking environment

Cons

  • Limited live theater training
  • Frequent waitlists for new students
  • Selective entry process

Customer Reviews

I have been coming to the 4th wall for about 6 months now, and it’s probably the best decision I’ve made with regards to acting. It’s an acting studio, but there’s also such a sense of family and community. William genuinely has our best interest in mind, and it shows through the kind of atmosphere he creates for his students. We are there to uplift and support yet challenge each other at the same time. Would highly recommend to anyone!!

William is one of the greatest, inspiring and fun acting coaches our teen has ever worked with. “Not only does he act as your coach, but he’s your partner, and makes you feel comfortable when you’re practicing your scene when you can be so nervous!!” William has taught her to come prepared, how to get into character, how to memorize lines better, and so much more. “I love his class and Saturdays are my favorite part of the weekend!”

Mastering the technical side of screen acting requires hands-on practice in a realistic environment.

Nashville Acting Studio’s program utilizes an innovative three-camera setup in every single class to help you refine your on-screen storytelling.

Their curriculum features on-set style coaching directly from the monitors. I like how this setup purposely mimics an actual professional set to quickly build your confidence.

Students receive consistent guidance from industry-active faculty led by Caroline Locorriere, who brings major feature film credits like The Social Network to the classroom.

On the development side, they follow a structured progression from foundational concepts up to advanced levels.

They even hold monthly Q&A sessions designed for parents to help them navigate the confusing business side of their child’s burgeoning career.

One significant hurdle is their auditing requirement, which adds an extra commitment before you can officially enroll. Just note that their demand is high, so you might need to pay a recurring fee for a non-performing membership just to stay on the waitlist.

Pros

  • Specialized three-camera technical training
  • Industry-active faculty and guest directors
  • Tiered curriculum for different skill levels
  • Targeted Southeast market business expertise

Cons

  • Mandatory class audit required before enrolling
  • Charges a monthly fee just for observing classes
  • Long waitlists for permanent performing spots

Customer Reviews

Great learning experience. Positive vibes. Positive people. You will learn a great deal in Caroline’s class. Not just from your craft but you’ll learn about yourself as a person. She pushes you into challenging yourself in ways that will make you become a better actor. In my book she is the best acting coach in Nashville.

I learned a great deal from my short time studying with Caroline. She understands actors and pushes each student, individually, wherever they are in the journey. From my perspective (studying and working in Nashville for a decade or so) it seems that Caroline has turned out an impressive number of higher quality film actors into the local region than previously existed. I recommend studying with her if you are serious about bettering your craft as an actor.

3. The Studio for Acting

Finding a coastal conservatory model in the South can be challenging, but The Studio for Acting replicates the professional training environments of New York and Los Angeles perfectly.

They firmly prioritize a foundation-first philosophy, completely restricting their on-camera classes until students master essential scene study techniques.

When I spoke with a working actor enrolled here, they praised the mixed-level ensemble approach. They also noted how much their craft improved through collaborating with peers of varying experience levels.

The classes take place entirely inside a major production facility called Skyway Studios, immersing you in a professional atmosphere from day one.

It’s also great that they offer a free audit to let potential student thoroughly test out the teaching style before committing to their professional pipeline workshops.

Only adults are accepted here, though. Also, the gated on-camera training might feel incredibly slow for eager beginners.

Pros

  • Located inside a professional production facility
  • High-level coastal conservatory training standards
  • Free initial scene study class audit
  • Networking opportunities with working professionals

Cons

  • Strict age limit restricted to adults
  • On-camera training is gated and invitation-only
  • Higher price point for casual beginners

Customer Reviews

I love Laura and the studio! The community is lovely, and I’ve grown as an actor exponentially. The technique work and scene work are equally helpful, and Laura’s insights and knowledge of the industry and the craft are invaluable. I highly recommend checking out the studio if you’re wanting to hone your acting skills and grow as an actor and a person.

Top tier acting classes for actors at any stage of their journey. Definitely attend a free auditing session and you will see how well Laura can bring out excellent acting with strong technique and incredible insight. Personally, through The Studio, I learned the difference between acting and performing and what vulnerability truly is.

4. Plan Acting

Consistent time on stage is critical for rapid development, which is why Plan Acting’s intense program guarantees active participation for everyone.

Through classes with only twelve students for their four-hour weekly sessions, no one gets left sitting on the sidelines here. Everyone receives direct, individualized feedback every week.

Training is comprehensive here. It’s led by working filmmakers Elizabeta and Izabela Vidovic, who have over thirty years of combined global industry experience and major network credits.

I like how their curriculum also provides holistic career integration that deeply covers audition mastery, headshot strategies, and local industry networking.

Another draw is the private environment here. Observers are prohibited, giving actors a completely safe space to take necessary creative risks.

On the downside, they have a rigid attendance policy. They also maintain a strict no-refund rule, so you’ll still pay full tuition even if you miss a class to shoot a booked acting job.

Pros

  • Guaranteed performance time in every session
  • Instructors with active global industry credits
  • Comprehensive business and career training
  • Free initial career consultation

Cons

  • Strict no-refund and no-proration policy
  • Prohibition of class auditing for prospective students
  • Limited weekly schedule for group classes

Customer Reviews

Plan (A)cting has had a very positive impact on me as an actor and as a person overall. These classes have challenged and pushed me, and I’ve learned to get out of my head and to just be free with my performances as an actor. Above that, I’ve had so much fun in class and I’ve made great friends.

Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned performer, I highly recommend taking classes here with Elizabeta and Bela. They have been very helpful, supportive, and all around just great coaches and fellow actors.

I love studying at Plan Acting and have learned a ton from Elizabeta. She has a deep understanding of the craft and does a great job tailoring her approach to fit each individual student. I definitely feel that I’ve developed a more well-rounded skill set after studying with her, and I always leave class having learned something new.  I’ve also really enjoyed getting to know the other students. Everyone is so supportive and kind. It’s a fun, welcoming environment and a great place to learn, and I can’t recommend it enough!

Recognized nationally by TIME Magazine for its top-tier productions, Nashville Children’s Theatre employs professional actors to create an immersive, high-caliber environment for its students.

Here, students receive detailed and rigorous instruction from active teaching artists. They also integrate comprehensive educational curriculum guides for academic field trips, plus provide extensive scholarship programs.

The school carefully structures its highly engaging classes into age-appropriate tracks to perfectly match specific developmental stages.

Their programs cater exclusively to youth up to eighteen years old, however. It’s also unique that they even have specialized productions for infants!

All classes operate out of a single downtown campus, so this might present a frustrating commute challenge for families living in the surrounding suburban areas.

Pros

  • Nationally recognized professional theatre environment
  • Instruction led by active professional teaching artists
  • Has scholarship options
  • Specialized tracks based on developmental stages

Cons

  • Exclusive to youth under 18
  • Single downtown location
  • No performance classes for adults
